Our Firm History
The history of Lifetime Financial Advisors, Inc. (LFA) began in 1980. Founded by Lou Oberman, and originally named Lou Oberman, Inc., our firm was created with the purpose of providing comprehensive financial planning services to clients. When financial planning was merely a seedling concept in the world of finance, Lou recognized the importance of providing ongoing and in-depth financial advice.
In 1987 Steve Van Houten, a young CFP® professional working for a San Diego real estate firm, called on Lou and the two developed a professional relationship. Steve knew that he wanted to start his own business and he, like Lou, shared the same passion for helping clients pursue financial independence. In 1993 they decided that Lou’s experience and Steve’s technical knowledge and boundless energy would form the perfect partnership. The name was then changed to Lifetime Financial Advisors, Inc. to reflect their goals of helping clients and their families for a “lifetime”. Together they served their first generation of clients all while the second generation was growing up and seeking financial planning for their families as well. In 2002 Steve purchased the business from Lou and became the sole owner. Lou continued to serve clients until his retirement in December of 2011 and they remain dear friends.
Today, Steve and his team of professionals are committed to the original vision of providing a “lifetime” of service to their clients and their families. In doing so, LFA has grown into a successful firm managing over $330 million in assets through LPL Financial as of December 1, 2015. Now working with the fourth generation of clients, it is with gratitude and pride that we look back on our history and how much we have accomplished with our loyal clients by our side.
